Christmas prep

We’re awaiting Christmas and Old Town is starting to look like a fairy-tale! Inside our beautiful 18th century house we enjoy breakfast in the kitchen, while reading the morningpaper and making plans for food and gifts. It is a time of preparation and contemplation.

Eco laptop? Someone?

Stylish, environmental friendly and very functional. Just as I like it! The Pia Wallén laptop case in felted eco wool and a metal button closure is nothing but…perfect. And the colours…from classy off-white to chocking pink. Nice! But when will we see the first 100 % environmental friendly MacBook Pro?!

Walk on the wild side

Winter is around the corner and the bright, bursting colours of Fall slowly fades into soft shades of brown, green, grey, purple and blue…NOW is the time for earth colours! For a week or two it is still possible to walk in the beautiful Swedish mountains and experience this fascinating process.  If you’re very lucky you might see an Arctic Fox! This fine little animal is on the red-list of endangered species in Sweden. But efforts are made to protect and save the Arctic Fox.

The Arctic Fox was given protected status in Sweden 1928, and Norway 1930, but until then it was hunted large-scale. Since the 1990s efforts have been made to protect the fox and its habitat. Kånken Mini from Fjällräven is a classic for children. It was created in 1978 to help prevent back problems that were emerging among Swedish school children. For almost 40 years it’s been the no 1 choice for generations of Swedish kids. In 2008 Kånken was the first backpack in the world to become climate compensated. Photo copyright Fjällräven. Kånken Mini comes in 40 colours!

Right now there’s a campaign to save the Arctic Fox and Fjällräven participates with three special models of Kånken Mini. For each sold backpack Fjällräven give €10 to the campaign. ”Fjällräven” is the Swedish word for ”Arctic Fox”.

Translating movement with GamFratesi

How do you translate a movement into a physical shape? With the Suspence™ lamp series Danish/Italian design duo GamFratesi created the form by pulling. The tensile force is visible at the top of the lamp, at the little tip! The natural soft curve of the lamps body is ”very GamFratesi” and the designers manage to make classic elegance blend into contemporary minimalism by working with small, subtle gestures. Notice the infinity diffuser in the pendant! And how the Nomad version is designed to be moved around, indoors but also ”on the terrace on a cosy summer evening”. While awaiting summer the Suspence™ lamp has, with its conceptual as well as functional approach to lighting, potential to be a favorite in many a Scandi homes.

Thinking Cosy

The short but beautiful summer season of Stockholm Old Town is coming to its end. We’ve seen sun and heavy rain. Every other day actually! The evenings are getting darker and the air is slightly cool. Now it’s time to turn to cosy blankets, and tea and a good book and a cat in the lap!

Pretty in pink!

Gardentime…and side by side with the peony I’v planted the small but ever so beautiful Astrantia Major, ”Stjärnflocka” in Swedish. This flower goes very well with peonies and is a reminder of how a small gesture might help to highlight the grande. And vice versa.

Spring Spa Day

The crispy nordic light is working its magic. At 7 in the morning we’re on todays mission: cleaning the windows. Work completed calls for a treat and now there’ll be coffee and cake. And sitting down, enjoying the scent of lilacs drifting in from the garden.
For an environmental friendly update of your home you do not need any chemicals. Water, linseed soap and a linen cloth will do the trick.

First step into the season

The very first thing we do in early spring is to bring out the garden bench. Where two colleagues can sit, side by side, sipping a strong, hot coffee, chatting away… Having a traditional go-fika (coffee and cinnamon bum) in the sun is important. How would you otherwise know what to write, or design or both! Ideas comes easily when together on the bench.

Tulip mania!

Spring is around the corner; we’re almost there! We enjoy long walks in the bright sunshine. And bring back bundles of crispy tulips. Stockholmers do really love tulips and especially the eco tulip from producer Alverbäcks. Since 1968 Alverbäcks has been growing tulips at Ekerö, an island very close to Stockholm city. Being environmental friendly and eco minded, Alverbäcks were among the first producers to certify their tulips within a system which reduces the negative climate effects of glass house cultivation.

Snow is in the air!

It’s winter in Sweden, and Old Town is no exception. Every roof top is white, the streets are white, the air is filled with a fluffy mesmerizing white. And as it is not very cold, just around minus 10 Celsius, it is perfect weather to bring out your kickslade (sv: spark) and have fun. This amusing vehicle (yes, it is classified as a vehicle) is cherished in Sweden since 150 years.
