Dear retired Bruno!

A retired lounge chair is sitting like a fine piece of art by the large window in my living room… Her name is Pernilla but she´s always been nicknamed ”Bruno” after Bruno Mathsson who designed this masterpiece in 1944. Bruno’s got a sleek, curved frame in laminated beech and original green paper webbing, now faded into a pale lime green. She’s no longer steady on her feet, and is wobbling slightly at touch. After close to 75 years of use this chair is now turned into a nest for cats. And as such she´ll remain.

Baby knew all along that Bruno actually would make a great cat nest (comfy…but also the perfect match to her emerald eyes…). Hera though is indifferent to the value of design. Food, sleep and some hunting makes her day. Everyday. Photo copyright Cia Wedin.

Contemporary classic: Pony by CSA

Access to clean water is essential for all life. In Stockholm we´re lucky to have really good tap-water. But as much as we enjoy it, we also have a tendency to take it for granted.
To celebrate the luxury of having free access to clean, clear, fantastic water I got myself a Pony carafe and can now enjoy the combination of good design and good water.

Eva Lange

We´re  heading towards the upcoming ”design race” in Stockholm, where we’ll be swirling through days and nights at the Stockholm Design Week and Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2018. As a preparation I spend some time with the beautiful, inspiring work by Swedish sculptor Eva Lange (born 1935). A few years ago I met with the artist in her studio in Stockholm. It resulted in an editorial portrait where Eva Lange speak about her craft and life, and also let us get a glimpse of her beautiful studio. As several readers have asked for the whole editorial I enclose it below.

Poetry and pink peonies

June in Old Town Stockholm is perhaps the most poetic time of the year: the pink peonies bloom in the garden, side by side with astrantia major – sv. Stjärnflocka. The bluetit bring the young ones for a visit and while mum and dad take a bath the chicks squeak and dance to get attention, and ultimately food, food, food…Now is the time to be lazy, to sit in the garden reading poetry (today I’m hooked on Fermata by young Swedish poet Iman Mohammed, published by Chateaux) and sipping green tea, nibbling cookies!

piondoft-1024x668

Pink peonies in the urban garden do the trick: could it be more poetic? Alongside the peonies we’ve planted Astrantia Major.

Buckland.jpg

The simple sweetness of Stjärnflocka (Astrantia Major) help to enlighten the beauty of the peonies. And vice versa.

The friendly gesture

While sharing a Swedish ”fika” with my friend Stina we spoke about good things, inspiring things, kindness and compassion. And the peaceful resistance against violence shown by Stockholmers since last weeks terror attack aimed at innocent members of our society. Four people, among them a schoolchild, and a senior dog were killed. But there’ll be no hatred. That’s the message and we’re all messengers.
We also exchanged some design: I traded my green Marimekko Messenger bag for Stinas bright orange.
– Now we’ll remember each other every day, while wearing these bags, Stina said. How cool!

Holocene by Wästberg

Fab masters of illumination, Wästberg, created the loveliest exhibition during Stockholm Design and Architecture Week. In the magical setting of Skridskopaviljongen Wästberg cherished fire as a light source. The Holocene collection consists of two oil lamps and one candlestick by designers Ilse Crawford, David Chipperfield and Jasper Morrison.
