Monstera reinstalled…

Who but Harri Koskinen would embark on a design journey in the company of Josef Frank’s iconic patterns for premium brand Svenskt Tenn. And come up with a stylized monstera leaf ! Let be handmade in glistening brass but nevertheless monstera, this ever present plant in interior pics from modernism ‘til today…But with Koskinen the monstera bring about a poetic quality which is surprisingly fresh.

The Shadow Play lamp with its strict ”leaf” on a likewise strict ”stem”, ”planted” in a simplistic ”pot” may look bold and conceptual in a way we’re not used to with Svenskt Tenn. But how well it goes with the playful colour magic of Josef Frank! For the exhibition at Svenskt Tenn during Stockholm Design Week Koskinen also upholstered some pieces of furniture from his own brand Harri Koskinen Works in Josef Frank fabrics. Lovely!

As a designer Harri Koskinen is known for reducing his design until there’s only the essence of form left for us to respond to. With the Shadow Play lamp Harri Koskinen let us experience a subtle play of light & shadow: as light spills throught slits in the leaf a play of shadows start on your wall and ceiling. Thus you’ll have huge, soft leaves floating around and above you. Add some real plants too and the effecct is fab!
