The stylish limited edition

Since some years the Scandi brands have taken to launch a limited F/W collection. This Fall we see lots of limited editions, may it be a collectors item, like Gloria Solid Silver by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Klong. Or a sassy raincoat from Stutterheim…Let’s take a look:

Swedish eco-brand Klong celebrate 15 years by presenting an anniversary collection focusing on innovation and sustainability and the combo creative art + fine craftsmanship. Among the objects, Gloria Solid Silver by Broberg & Ridderstråle, is a given collectors item. Gloria is handmade in collaboration with acknowledged jewellery designer and goldsmith Rey Urban (1929–2015).

Fritz Hansen knows how to make their iconic chairs, like The Ant™ by Arne Jacobsen (1952) trendy and contemporary.  In Fritz Hansen’s limited edition Choice 2016 The Ant™ is dressed in a warm grey-dyed oak veneer with powder-coated bronze legs which lends a subtly weathered look to this sleek beauty.

And who but Swedish brand Stutterheim (”Melancholy at its driest”) launches an edition of rain gear both stylish and trendy! Coat Odenplan comes in black, green, navy and sand.

Thinking Cosy

The short but beautiful summer season of Stockholm Old Town is coming to its end. We’ve seen sun and heavy rain. Every other day actually! The evenings are getting darker and the air is slightly cool. Now it’s time to turn to cosy blankets, and tea and a good book and a cat in the lap!

Julius

Julius by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Klong (2016) takes service to a contemporary level. This small table on wheels is a perfect companion in the living room, if not with drinks I’d say a good cup of tea and a book will do. Steel and ash wood. Two favorites. And the round shape! Producer Klong and CEO Eva Hjertberg delivers!

Great Expectations

With less than a week to go before Stockholm Design Week kicks off, interesting previews of news are piling high. During the 2016 Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair I’ll be especially curious of what the Scandi brands are up to!

Iittala x Issey Miyake
The most hyped launch must be Pause for Harmony by Issey Miyake for Iittala. The master of pleating and plissé goes Finnish!

Ingegerd Råman for Ikea
Another top notch collaboration is fab Ingegerd Råman for Ikea. Viktigt collection will be presented on February 11th. Same date as the release of ”It’s nothing but it’s still something”, a book about the designer and her work.

I’ll definitely keep an eye or two on:
Swedese with news by Claesson, Koivisto, Rune, Broberg & Ridderstråle, Roger Persson and…Barber & Osgerby, the brilliant Brittish design duo who’re ”2016 Guests of Honour” at the Fair.

Claesson, Koivisto, Rune/ Smaller Objects and their everyday objects designed by a range of well known international designers.

Gärsnäs with news by David Ericsson (I’m still stunned by the beautiful Madonna Chair he created for Gärsnäs last year), and Färg & Blanche, to name a few.

Form Us With Love designstudio 2016
Form Us With Us celebrates 10 years as a design studio with an exhibition at Konstakademien.

Fogia goes Seth Andersson; Carina Seth Andersson is a strong addition to the Fogia team, where we also find gifted designers like Andreas Engesvik (Tiki sofa, 2015). Furthermore, Fogia is launching a life style concept under the creative direction of Note Design Studio.

And Note Design Studio themselves exhibit at ArkDes, the Architechture and Design center at Skeppsholmen in Stockholm.

There’ll be no lack of good, environmental friendly and visually sustainable design. As usual, Sanna and I will attend the Fair as well as events in town. We’ll walk and talk and mingle…and report back to you!

Noir by Broberg & Ridderstråle

With perfect timing of good design + season Skeppshult has lauched Noir by Broberg & Ridderstråle. Founded in 1906 Skeppshult is the only remaining foundry in Scandinavia producing household products in cast iron. In the hands of Broberg & Ridderstråle the traditional material and function of pots and pans has been taken to a contemporary level. The look is interesting yet classic, the objects has a tactile feel and the functionality is adjusted to suit a modern lifestyle.

A Friendly Minimalism

The Contemporary Scandi Minimalism is a very easygoing style. Neat, yes…that’s part of the concept. But look how nice the colours and different materials interact with the natural Nordic daylight! As a result this beautiful habitat has a really good feel to it. This is a home where you can relax and entertain, spend time alone or together with friends, prepare a dinner or read a book. Planning is one way to achieve space and comfort in your home. Good lighting the other. This small apartment for two has got it all perfect.

The carefully chosen

Johan Ridderstråle runs the design studio Broberg & Ridderstråle together with Mats Broberg. Earlier this week Broberg & Ridderstråle were awarded the ELLE Decoration Swedish Design Awards 2015 for ”Best carpet” – namely Fleur for Asplund.
In his private home at Södermalm in Stockholm Johan Ridderstråle has worked with a few, carefully chosen additions to the original architecture from 1907. Thus creating a contemporary, handsome and very comfortable feel.

Cosy minimalism with Asplund

Swedish producer Asplund are known for their ”friendly minimalism”. Focusing on high quality design by mainly Swedish designers, using natural materials like wool, silk and steel, and working with a colouring scheme of lovely muted pastels, Asplund 2014 is contemporary Scandi at its best. This Fall the carpet collection stands out as being both classic and innovative. Especially Jessica Signell Knutssons carpet Grid, with its handwoven wool base and knotted silk pattern. It’s tactile to the touch and beautiful to look at. Best carpet this year!
It is also nice to see the fine cabinets by Claesson, Koivisto, Rune and Anya Sebton/Eva Lilja Löwenhielm in new colours.
