Bellhop by Barber Osgerby

Brittish design duo Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby in collaboration with Flos 2017 resulted in Bellhop, a series of handsome wall, floor and pendant lighting. Recently Flos launched a portable and rechargeable version of Bellhop, for indoor or outdoor (porch) use. You charge it by micro-USB-c and it’ll spread a clear light for app. 24 hours. I like the design and understand why using polycarbonate for the shell. PC is a durable plastic and when handled and used properly the risk of leaking toxines is small. But I wonder how this little sweetie is to be recycled, that day in the future when the LED function is worn out?

Thinking Cosy

The short but beautiful summer season of Stockholm Old Town is coming to its end. We’ve seen sun and heavy rain. Every other day actually! The evenings are getting darker and the air is slightly cool. Now it’s time to turn to cosy blankets, and tea and a good book and a cat in the lap!

The sculptural scandi lamp

The sculptural white lamp never goes out of fashion. It blends easily into any scandi interior and is a good example of visual sustainability.

Great Expectations

With less than a week to go before Stockholm Design Week kicks off, interesting previews of news are piling high. During the 2016 Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair I’ll be especially curious of what the Scandi brands are up to!

Iittala x Issey Miyake
The most hyped launch must be Pause for Harmony by Issey Miyake for Iittala. The master of pleating and plissé goes Finnish!

Ingegerd Råman for Ikea
Another top notch collaboration is fab Ingegerd Råman for Ikea. Viktigt collection will be presented on February 11th. Same date as the release of ”It’s nothing but it’s still something”, a book about the designer and her work.

I’ll definitely keep an eye or two on:
Swedese with news by Claesson, Koivisto, Rune, Broberg & Ridderstråle, Roger Persson and…Barber & Osgerby, the brilliant Brittish design duo who’re ”2016 Guests of Honour” at the Fair.

Claesson, Koivisto, Rune/ Smaller Objects and their everyday objects designed by a range of well known international designers.

Gärsnäs with news by David Ericsson (I’m still stunned by the beautiful Madonna Chair he created for Gärsnäs last year), and Färg & Blanche, to name a few.

Form Us With Love designstudio 2016
Form Us With Us celebrates 10 years as a design studio with an exhibition at Konstakademien.

Fogia goes Seth Andersson; Carina Seth Andersson is a strong addition to the Fogia team, where we also find gifted designers like Andreas Engesvik (Tiki sofa, 2015). Furthermore, Fogia is launching a life style concept under the creative direction of Note Design Studio.

And Note Design Studio themselves exhibit at ArkDes, the Architechture and Design center at Skeppsholmen in Stockholm.

There’ll be no lack of good, environmental friendly and visually sustainable design. As usual, Sanna and I will attend the Fair as well as events in town. We’ll walk and talk and mingle…and report back to you!

One by One

One by One book by designers Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby (2015) is a visual, meditative approach on the design- and production process. Through a selection of projects represented by a singular image or drawing we get a glimpse of the diversity and fresh energy of their work. The two designers work with different approaches but their ”ideas always seem to unite”, as they say. They also stress that their work is a cooperative effort. Technicians, model makers and engineers play an important role from early concept sketch to the launch of the final product. During recent years Barber & Osgerby has collaborated with companies like Vitra, B&B Italia, Knoll and Mutina. In February 2016 Barber & Osgerby visit Sweden as Guests of Honour at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.

A handsome model…

Baby – my Russian Blue cat/secretary was helping browsing through the mailbox this morning and she pointed out a very handsome model.
While she was admiring the sleek kitty I got caught by Mariposa – a new sofa by Barber & Osgerby for Vitra 2015 Home Collection. The unusual seat depths allows two people to sit on either end and comfortably face each other.
Mariposa will be shown in a special exhibition at the Furniture Fair in Cologne this coming week, as it has been selected among the winners of the ”Interior Innovation Award 2015”.

When you can’t resist…

Tab T lamp Barber Osgerby for Flos
It started with a small lamp for my desk…The sweet yet minimalistic TAB was designed by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby in 2008, and taken into production by Flos in 2011.

Tip Ton Chair Barber Osgerby for Vitra
Then I found myself amused by the Tip Ton chair for Vitra (2011); it is a slightly rocking piece of joy!

Barber Osgerby Bench
And the lovely Portsmouth Bench for Isokon Plus, in production since 2002…I’v considered it at least a hundred times!

The amazing floor & wall tiles Mews for Mutina was launched in the Fall of 2013….

Barber and Osgerby
The designers themselves…Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.
What are they up to next? I wonder!
